France, The Louvre-Lens opens to the public!

Louvre Lens

One of the most famous cultural institutions of Europe arrives in a mining region of France particularly affected by the economic crisis; The Louvre Lens is just over an hour from Paris by train and is the first sister museum to the world-famous Louvre! This region, the Nord-Pas de Calais, is ideally situated at the crossroads of Europe, near Belgium, Great Britain and Germany; Lens was chosen almost ten years ago for how much it has suffered because of the two world wars and the demise of coal industry and the museum will house a rotating selection of works from the Paris Louvre (the two museums would be complementary). The structure was designed by Japanese architects SANAA and New York studio Imrey Culbert and is composed of rectangular volumes with walls of glass and brushed aluminium. Interesting! 😉
